Quality Books

Whenever I stop in a music store to buy a new ukulele book, every month I believe there are more and more books being added to the ukulele section! As exciting as that may be, it also can be overwhelming. What book do I buy? Is it worth the cost? Will it give me what I need? Below I answer some of those questions by giving you a list of books that I currently own, and share what you will find in each of them.

Rainbow Ukulele Student Book Level 1

This book is a great young beginner method book that also has at least 50 simple songs young players can strum on the ukulele with the focus on chord reading.

The Daily Ukulele

A book full of older, classic songs that range from easy to difficult. I also like how the back of the book has a section for holiday songs and children’s songs. This is a MUST to have in your library, especially if you are an adult.

Hal Leonard Ukulele Method Book 1

This is a wonderful book for any beginner. There are a variety of classic songs in this book that walk through strumming and plucking, which is nice to have.

The 'Ukulele: A History

If you want to know the history of the ukulele, this book tells the whole story from its origins in Portugal (yes, Portugal) to the popularity of it today.

Essential Elements For Ukulele Method Book 1

Another wonderful beginner method book that I have actually preferred using in private lessons recently. This is also an easy book to work through without a teacher.

The Ukulele Songbook

I absolutely love this book and how it is notated inside! There are TABs under each pitch to help students with plucking and there are also chord charts so students could choose to strum as well. There is even a Vol. II as well.
