Whenever I stop in a music store to buy a new ukulele book, every month I believe there are more and more books being added to the ukulele section! As exciting as that may be, it also can be overwhelming. What book do I buy? Is it worth the cost? Will it give me what I need? Below I answer some of those questions by giving you a list of books that I currently own, and share what you will find in each of them.
The 'Ukulele: A History
If you want to know the history of the ukulele, this book tells the whole story from its origins in Portugal (yes, Portugal) to the popularity of it today.
The Daily Ukulele
A book full of older, classic songs that range from easy to difficult. I also like how the back of the book has a section for holiday songs and children’s songs. This is a MUST to have in your library.
Ukulele Method: Book 1
This is a wonderful book for any beginner. There are a variety of classic songs in this book that walk through strumming and plucking, which is nice to have.
21 Songs in 6 Days
If you are a visual learner, this book comes with online video tutorials to help you. Most of the songs are just strumming and singing, but is definitely easy to play through.
Ukulele in the Classroom Series
For classroom use, this is a great series. Most of the songs in this series are Canadian Folk Songs. It also is one of the only books out there with uke duets.
Peace Love Ukulele
If you are looking to find a book to really challenge you, this book does just that. This book contains the sheet music of several songs by Jake Shimabakuro. It includes tabs and chords.
